Serve With Us
Part of any healthy relationship involves helping each other.
As a congregation, we help both each other and those who are part of our community.
Below are a few of the ways you can join us in serving others.
Ongoing Opportunities
-
Fishes and Loaves
In partnership with Etowah UMC (which houses and operates Fishes and Loaves), we take up a special collection the first Sunday each month to support this food pantry. We also regularly send teams of volunteers to help neighbors access the nutritious food they need.
-
Backpack Food Ministry
During the school year, teams of MRUMC members put together backpacks of food for kids who receive free and reduced price meals during the week, but would go hungry on the weekends.
-
Habitat for Humanity
As part of Thrivent Financial Services annual Faith Build and in cooperation with other building projects, we gather volunteers to build, feed, and be part of Habitat’s important efforts.
-
MRUMC Jail Ministry
“Calling the Men in the Church. Are you tough? Are you looking for a REAL challenge? Are you looking for a way to not only get to know Christ better but to make Christ known to people who are lost, in some cases forgotten, and in deep trouble? Are you looking for a way to fulfill Christ’s call found in Matthew, Chapter 25, Vs 35.... ”I was in prison and you came to visit me”? If these challenges help spark a desire to join. Training is available.
-
Bereavement Ministry

Seasonal Opportunities
-
Party in the Park
Our biggest service event of the year, each August we host a community gathering at Mills River Park with food, games, music, and community services. We also distribute free bags of school supplies to families who may need them.
-
Christmas Collections
Each Advent/Christmas season, we take up collections of toys, clothing, and other gifts as well as organizing experiences for those who are most in need in our community. We do this so that all will know the love of Christ as we celebrate his birth.
