Dear friends,

Honor the Past. Unleash the Future! This is the theme of our newly launched capital campaign. It is a terrific theme because it gives respect to the rich history of our church and its ministry and it represents our hope for our future. I hope by now you have the campaign magnet on your fridge and the brochure at a convenient place for your frequent reading.

We had a great kickoff Sunday on March 18th with the premiere of a special video featuring church members. You can see the video above. The breakfast was packed with people eager to hear about the campaign and all that it will mean for our church’s ministry in the years to come. We commissioned our Capital Campaign Committee and entrusted them with the work of leading us through the campaign. You can see their names at the end of this article.

I want to stress that this capital campaign is about so much more than raising money to pay down the mortgage debt we have left from the 2000 construction of our sanctuary building. It is true that we aim to get rid of the debt — it has held us back from pursuing many ministry dreams.

As we said in our campaign brochure, “We are excited about the campaign’s primary objective: eliminating the building debt and freeing up resources for ministry. We are also eager to manage what we are entrusted with God’s way, which is why we will give a tithe (10%) of the campaign’s proceeds to a ministry beyond ourselves.”

We have chosen Mills River Life Enrichment Center (MRLEC) to be the beneficiary of our tithe. MRLEC is a program whose mission is to minister to “the mind, body and spirit of seniors in our community by establishing a Christian-based community center offering a place for fellowship, service and enjoyment.” The more that is given to the Honor the Past. Unleash the Future capital campaign, the more MRLEC will receive for its phenomenal ministry to our community seniors.

In talking with the MRLEC Director, Ruth Williams, I learned that currently, there are 23 area churches represented at MRLEC on Thursdays. These churches are in Etowah, Fletcher, Arden, Mills River, Fairview, Hendersonville, Brevard, Asheville and Fruitland. MRLEC’s reach is wide and deep. We are thrilled to support this amazing ministry and help insure its ongoing mission to our beloved seniors.

Please consider making an initial gift to the campaign right now and also, please complete your commitment card and return to the church as soon as possible. A strong start will build momentum and inch us ever closer to paying off our debt, freeing up our resources, supporting MRLEC and joyfully glorifying God!
